     Phillip Manton was born in June 1827 in Parish of Thurles, County Limerick, Ireland; Note that although Thurles is located within County Limerick, it is a part of the Diocese of Emly and Cashal in Tipperary. Note that the cemetery marker indicates that he was born in 1820.1,2 He married Mary _____ in Parish of Thurles, County Limerick, Ireland. Phillip Manton died in 1907 in Stark County, Illinois, United States.1 He was buried in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Camp Grove, Marshall County, Illinois, United States.
     He immigrated on 20 July 1864 to New York, New York, United States; Phillip arrived in New York on the NE Plus Ultra from Liverpool (his name is spelled Munton in the passenger list).3 He appeared on the census of 3 July 1865 in La Prairie Township, Stark County, Illinois, United States.4 He appeared on the census of 14 June 1870 in Saratoga Township, Henry, Marshall County, Illinois, United States; Note that the name is spelled Martin in the Census Index.5 He appeared on the census of 30 June 1880 in Saratoga Township, Marshall County, Illinois, United States; Note that the name is spelled Mintin in the Census Index.6 He appeared on the census of 9 June 1900 in Saratoga Township, Marshall County, Illinois, United States.2
