James Murnane was born circa 1778 in County Limerick, Ireland. He married Catherine Mary Flinn on 4 March 1810 in Knocklong, County Limerick, Ireland.1
James Murnane was listed as a godparent at the baptism of Jude Murnane on 8 February 1825 in Knocklong and Glenbrohane, County Limerick, Ireland; Godparents James Murnane and Mary Walsh. Jude seems an unusual name here. If this were Philip's first son, one would expect him to name him Thomas after his father.2 James Murnane appeared on the census of circa 1834 in Dromcomogue Townland, County Limerick, Ireland; In 1834, Jame Murnane was listed in the Tithe Applotment book for the Township of Drumcomogue. Very near him lived a Michael Murnane, possibly his brother.3 He appeared on the census of circa 1850 in Dromcomogue Townland, County Limerick, Ireland; This may be the same James Murnane who lived in Dromcomogue in 1834. However, the name is spelled differently (Mournane), which may mean nothing. In addition, Patrick Murnane is listed, but this is probably not James' son (he emmigrated in 1849 with his family).4

Family: Catherine Mary Flinn
