Michael Murnane was born on 14 October 1834 in Dromcomogue Townland, County Limerick, Ireland; Godparents were James Kinkeed and Ellen Ryan.2 He married Ellen McCarty, daughter of Timothy McCarty and Ellen _____, in 1850 in Buffalo, New York, United States; Note that the groom was 15 and the bride only 14. Their first child, Daniel is born in 1857. It is possible that the couple may have lost their first child, perhaps named after Michael's father, Thomas, on the trek to Illinois.3 Michael Murnane married Jerusha Vance on 4 April 1872 in Keytesville, Chariton County, Missouri, United States; Sometime between 1870 and 1872, while working on the railroad in Iowa, Michael abandons his wife Ellen and his family. Ellen and the children return to Henry, Illinois. But Michael goes to Missouri where he marries twice.4 Michael Murnane married Susan Russell on 1 March 1880 in Keytesville, Chariton County, Missouri, United States; By 1880, Michael has separated from Jerusha Vance and has instead married Susan Russell.5 Michael Murnane died on 21 June 1903 in Keytesville, Chariton County, Missouri, United States, at age 68; Michael Marnane died in Missouri without a will in 1903. He had left his wife Ellen 20 years earlier and was living with Susan Russell. Since Michael had no will, the house that he owned back in Henry, Illinois, needed to be sold and the proceeds distributed among his survivors (Ellen, his wife, Daniel, Minnie and Michael Jr.) The estate documents indicate that Michael had been living in Keytesville, Missouri, and that he died on or about June 21, 1903.6 He was buried in Keytesville City Cemetery, Keytesville, Chariton County, Missouri, United States.7
He immigrated with Patrick Murnane on 18 December 1849 to New York, New York, United States; Also listed in the record traveling with Patrick's family was a Widow Murnane (aged 54), her son Patrick (aged 20), and Margaret (aged 14). This is Nora Keaffe, widow of James Murnane. We assume that Patrick's other sons, John, Patrick and James, had died before 1849. His daughters, Mary, Ann and Elizabeth, may have died or may have married before 1849. Also listed is Michael Murnane: this person is not the son of Patrick and Ann, but rather the son of Michael and Julia English Murnane, Patrick's nephew.8 Michael Murnane appeared on the census of 3 September 1850 in the household of Patrick Murnane in East Bloomfield Township, Ontario County, New York, United States; Michael Murnane is probably not the son of Patrick and Ann Murnane, but rather the son of Thomas and Johanna Malone Murnane.9 Michael Murnane appeared on the census of 4 June 1860 in Henry, Marshall County, Illinois, United States.10 He appeared on the census of 1865 in Henry, Marshall County, Illinois, United States; The record indicates that there were 2 males and 1 female under the age of 10 in the household.11 He appeared on the census of 8 July 1870 in Thompson Township, Guthrie County, Iowa, United States.10 He appeared on the census of 18 June 1880 in Keytesville, Chariton County, Missouri, United States.12 He appeared on the census of 1 June 1900 in Keytesville, Chariton County, Missouri, United States; The Federal Census lists Michael's birthdate as Januray 1833.13
