     Darby Day was born circa 1809 in County Limerick, Ireland; In what year was Darby born? In 1848, he indicated that he was born in 1824 (probably 1814), in 1850 he indicated 1814, in 1860 he indicated 1810, in 1870 he indicated 1815, in 1880 he indicated 1812, and his tombstone indicates he was born in 1809. The range is from 1809 to 1815, with the likely date around 1810 or earlier. Note also that he would have been the first son born to Thomas Day and that he would have been named after his grandfather. He married Johanna Murnane, daughter of James Murnane and Catherine Mary Flinn, on 6 February 1842 in St. Ailbe's Church, Emly, County Tipperary, Ireland; The couple were married "in the presence of" James Murnane (Johanna's brother), Patrick Murnane, Johanna's brother and his wife Hannah Adams.1 Darby Day died on 18 February 1882 in Camp Grove, Marshall County, Illinois, United States. He was buried in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Camp Grove, Marshall County, Illinois, United States.2
     He was listed as a godparent at the baptism of Catherine Bartley in September 1823 in County Limerick, Ireland; Godparents were Darby O'Dea and Bridget O'Dea.3 Darby Day and Johanna Murnane emigrated on 10 April 1848 from Galway, Ireland, on the Barbara.4 Darby Day and Johanna Murnane immigrated on 11 May 1848 to New York, New York, United States.5,6 Darby Day appeared on the census of 14 September 1850 in Minden Township, Montgomery County, New York, United States.7 He purchased land in Henry, Marshall County, Illinois, United States, on 1 May 1857.8 He appeared on the census of 4 June 1860 in Henry, Marshall County, Illinois, United States.9 He was a godparent at the baptism of Johanna O'Brien on 4 September 1863 in Senachwine Township, Putnam County, Illinois, United States; Godparents were Darby and Johanna Day.10,11 Darby Day appeared on the census of 3 July 1865 in Henry, Marshall County, Illinois, United States; In addition, one more male between 10 and 20 is listed in the record, but it is impossible to tell if this is James or John.12 He appeared on the census of 14 June 1870 in Saratoga Township, Marshall County, Illinois, United States.13 He sold land in Henry, Marshall County, Illinois, United States, on 22 September 1871.14 He was a godparent at the baptism of Thomas James Day on 3 January 1874 in St. Patrick's Church, Camp Grove, Marshall County, Illinois, United States; The sponsors for the baptism were Darby Day and Margaret Day.15 Darby Day appeared on the census of 8 June 1880 in Valley Township, Stark County, Illinois, United States.16

The Barbara is last listed in "Lloyd's Register" for 1849/50; no reference to a wreck or other casualty is posted against the entry, so I do not know whether her removal from the "Register" is an indication she was no longer in service, or that she had been sold to other owners, either British or foreign, [who] chose not to continue her registration with Lloyd's.
