Winnefred Ryan was born in 1825 in Ireland; There are no records that identify Winifred's parents other than her marriage record in 1878.1 She married John Ryan, son of Cornelius Ryan and Hanora Donnell, on 20 May 1851 in St. Mary's Church, Peoria, Peoria County, Illinois, United States; The name on the marriage record is Winnie Ryan.2 Winnefred Ryan married John Ryan, son of Cornelius Ryan and Hanora Donnell, on 7 November 1878 in Valley Township, Stark County, Illinois, United States; The marriage record indicates that this marriage is the second for Winifred and the third for John. Winifred lists her parents as John Ryan and Mary Brown. John lists his parents as Cornelius Ryan and Hannah McDonald (Donnell). It appears that John and Winifred separated for a short period of time around 1870 but then reconciled and re-married.1 Winnefred Ryan died on 9 March 1889 in Woodhull, Henry County, Illinois, United States; About a week before her death, Winifred had gone to Woodhull in Henry County to recive treatment for her eyes. She did not feel well, but was dissuaded from returning home by her physician. After breakfast on the 9th, she determined to return home and went to her room to pack. Her attendant found her body. It appeared that she was bending to put on her shoes and stockings when her heart gave out.3,4 She was buried on 12 March 1889 in St. Patrick's Church, Camp Grove, Marshall County, Illinois, United States; Winnefred's tombstone, although almost identical to John's, is not situated next to his, but rather about 60 feet away next to William Ryan.5,4
She appeared on the census of 18 July 1860 in the household of John Ryan in Stark County, Illinois, United States.6 Winnefred Ryan appeared on the census of 15 June 1870 in La Prairie Township, Stark County, Illinois, United States; Winifred is not living with her husband John but rather with her daughter Hanora next to William Ryan.7 She appeared on the census of 8 June 1880 in the household of John Ryan in Valley Township, Stark County, Illinois, United States.8
