Birth*Jeremiah Day was born on December 19, 1856 in Henry, Marshall County, Illinois.1 
He was the son of Darby Day and Johanna Murnane

Communion1*Jeremiah Day received First Holy Communion in 1865 in St. Marys Church, Henry, Marshall County, Illinois. When he received his First Communion, Jeremiah, like his father, was called Darby.3 
Cen-Enum*Jeremiah Day was enumerated on the US Census Population Schedule 1880 of June 8, 1880, Valley Township, at Stark County, Illinois.4 
Marriage*Jeremiah Day married Johanna Ryan, daughter of John Ryan and Winnefred Ryan, on January 29, 1883 in Camp Grove, Marshall County, Illinois. Standing up for the couple were Matthew and Mary Ryan. After their marriage, they located on a farm near Wyoming, Illinois. They lived on several farms in this and the Camp Grove areas.3,5 
Change Res*In 1896, the family from Illinois. The relatives of both Jeremiah and Johanna (Days and Ryans) informed them that Iowa was a good place to live. They made the journey by train in 1896 and settled initially outside of Scranton. Ellen Day O'Brien and her husband James had preceded them to the Scranton area. (Note that many documents list their arrival date as 1898; however, the Jefferson Bee references their recent arrival in April of 1896.).6,7

While living in Jefferson, they often drove back out to the farm (now being run by their sons) first in an old Ford, later in an Overland and then Oakland sedan. They enjoyed visiting their children as well as having their children and grandchildren visit them in Jefferson.1

Death*Jeremiah Day died on April 12, 1932 in Jefferson, Greene County, Iowa, at age 75. In his later years, he was a devout member of St. Joseph's Church. He had been in failing health for the eight months before his death and was bed ridden the last two months of his life.1,18 
Burial*He was buried after April 12, 1932 in St. Mary's Cemetery, Greene County, Iowa. Casket bearers were LeRoy Garrity, Delos Garrity, Francis Garrity, Earl Day, Leo Day and Cleo Day. The Mass was celebrated by Father Murphy at St. Joseph's Church in Jefferson, Iowa.1,19
