John O'Dea was born on November 11, 1834 in County Limerick. Godparents were Thomas McGrath and Honora Dea.1 He was the son of John O'Dea and Sarah Ryan. John O'Dea married Anna M. Ford on September 30, 1872 in Stoughton, Norfolk County, Massachusetts.2 John O'Dea died on February 14, 1900 in Stoughton, Norfolk County, Massachusetts, at age 65.3,4,5 He was buried in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton, Norfolk County, Massachusetts.3
He immigrated with Sarah Ryan on June 12, 1849 to Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts. Sarah and her family arrived on the Ocean Star. It is possible that Sarah's brother, William, accompanied her as well. There are a number of other Days listed in the manifest.6 John O'Dea witnessed the baptism of Sarah Jane O'Dea on May 10, 1862 in St. John the Evangelist, Canton, Norfolk County, Massachusetts.5 John O'Dea was naturalized on March 25, 1874 in Lowell, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.7 He witnessed the baptism of Margaret (Maggie) O'Dea on April 11, 1875 in Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton, Norfolk County, Massachusetts.5
