Mary Apjohn was born circa 1691 in Gortalyne, Coonagh, County Limerick. She was the daughter of William Apjohn and Catherine Lysaght. Mary (Marcy) Apjohn and John Gabbett married on Jan 2, 1713. The marriage date is referenced in a memorial dated May 17 1755 (#59746). John is often listed as "John Gabbett of Ballyvoneen," and so it is of interest to see how he came by that land. The memorial dated May 22, 1714 (#5176), indicates that William Apjohn of Kilduff at that time was in possession of Ballyvoneen and since this post-dates the marriage of John Gabbett and Mary Apjohn, it is certain that Ballyvoneen was not a part of the marriage settlement arranged by William for his daughter Mary. The memorial of 1755 indicates that John inherited the lease for Ballyvoneen from his brother Joseph after Joseph died in 1740. In 1716, in a memorial (#10425) in which William releases the lands of Dromlara to Edward Apjohn, we find a witness, Thomas of Ballyvoneen, who later moved to Trienamanagh. In 1734, we see that William passes the lease of Ballyvoneen to his son Michael Apjohn. We can conclude then that Michael Apjohn, son of William of Kilduff, leased Ballyvoneen sometime between 1734 and 1740 to William Gabbett of Caherline and from William the lease passed to his son Joseph Gabbett. After John Gabbett inherited the lease of Ballyvoneen in 1740 from his unmarried brother Joseph, we can see that he then passed it on to his son Michael Gabbett. Michael Gabbett never married and after his death, the lease on Ballyvoneen probably expired and thus we find that it appears again in 1770 in the possession of Michael and Michael Marshall Apjohn.1,2
